Hi! I'm Jen Sykes, and my blog is Hello Mrs Sykes. I am a lifelong learner and found my passion in helping struggling readers *love* to read! My experiences as a literacy coach in grades 3-5 have allowed me to share this passion. In 2011, I began this blog as a way to continue to share with teachers. Now it's 2016, and I continue to use this blog to discuss strategies, best practices, amazing resources, and how I use games to boost the vocabulary of my learners.
I began teaching in January, 1998 as a teacher 2nd/3rd grade combination class. It was, literally,
trial by fire. (and broken bones. Really.
I can't make this stuff up.) I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. My mom says I used to play school with my little brother (who is taller than me!)

That's me on the left. My dad is the one taking the picture, or you would see his great mustache. |
I am now "all grown up," and I have my own amazing family. I met my hubby when I lived in the apartment above his, and my shower leaked on his bed. ;) He now plays guitar and writes his own music. In the 22 years I have known him, I think he has made me laugh every. single. day. (And I love him for it!!)
We are experts in awkward selfies...

As you can see, I don't take good selfies... yet! |
I am a proud momma of my 2 kiddos, who are pretty good sports about taking silly pictures with me.
|
I have an awesome family. Here we are sitting in a huge Adirondack chair. |
I am a huge, huge fan of
Teachers Pay Teachers, and have a
store for teachers and homeschoolers on TpT. My passions are on full display in my store, with resources to boost vocabulary, using games to keep learning fun, and materials to hold an awesome literacy night for your students/parents.
So sweet! Thanks!!

Hi! I'm a new education blogger. I've come across your blog several times and love it! If you have time, could you pass by mine, let me know what you think, and pass on a little advice? Ellen (www.e4educate.com)
